Nutrition Series
McKenzie Zajonc, a graduate student at
Bastyr University, is teaching several classes throughout August and
September focused on how we nourish our bodies and our children's, too.
Meet McKenzie at our
Day Camp Preview,
Saturday, May 15 and 22.
Feeding Children
Mindfully
Explore new ideas and concepts for one of the more challenging questions
parents face: How and what do I feed my child? Rediscover the essential part
you play as a caretaker and provider, while understanding what role your
child plays in feeding him/herself. We will also discuss common childhood
deficiencies, 'picky eaters,' and share meal ideas.
Mindful Eating
Bring back your full attention to one of your favorite acts: eating food.
Renew your sense of pleasure, gratitude, and satisfaction with eating and
reconnect with your body's true needs. Transform any struggles you may have
had with your relationship to food and weight. Highlights include the seven
types of hunger, distinguish eating vs. feeding, explain the emotional
complexities surrounding food, and rediscovering the fun and love food can
provide for all of us.
Happy Gut
You may eat all the right things, but do you get all the nourishment the
food has to offer? This class focuses on improving the health of our guts so
we may absorb the foods we eat. We will discuss components of meals that
improve overall digestibility and gastric distress. Fermented and sprouted
foods, as well as tips for common problematic foods, such as beans and
wheat, will be highlighted.
